Tool | Data Transfer | Overlay Trace

This tool is convenient for those users that wish to display another position graph over/alongside the existing position graph of the active motion.
Once you have used this overlay trace button the icon will appear "active".  It can be toggled off to remove the overlay trace from the position graph by clciking the Overlay trace icon again.

Currently, there are some strict rules for the use of this function.  These may change in near future versions (after V1.02.2)
  • The data MUST be a column of data
  • The first data point must start in the ROW 1 and COLUMN 2.  This data will be drawn as in Position Graph
  • You can have data alongside the Position Data in Columns 3,4 and 5.  These will used to draw the Velocity, Aceeleration, and Jerk graphs.  However, data in these columns is not needed.  If Data is not present in Columns 3, 4, 5 then the Overlay trace will only be applied to the Position Graph.
  • You can have as many or as few data points in the data column as you wish
  • MotionDesigner will always "stretch" the "duration" data to be same as the existing active motion.
  • MotionDesigner will make the first data point to coincide in time with the first step in your active motion design
  • MotionDesigner will make your last data point to coincide in time with the last step in your active motion design.
  • MotionDesigner will not scale the data in the Y-axis - it will just copy your data into the Y axis.
  • If there is not any data in ROW 1 and COLUMN 2, then nothing will be traced.

A quick example for you to try is:

Have two motions open (use File: Add Motion)
Open the Data Transfer dialogue (Tools: Data Transfer)
Drag one of the blend-points in the first motion, or change a position value using the data field and spin-box.
In the Data Transfer dialogue, use the Get Motion Data to fill the data transfer with the active motion data.
You will notice that the COLUMN 2 is the position list.
Click the other Motion Name tab to make the second motion active.
Click the Overlay Trace icon to paste the Position data of the first motion as a trace graph of the second motion.
(it will paste the position list of the first motion to the position of the second motion because the position list is already in the COLUMN 2)
You will see a new graph overlaying the motion from the first motion in the second motion.
You can change the colour of overlay trace using the Tools | Settings | Graphs| dialogue.

    End of Example.

Of course, any data you paste to start at ROW 1, COLUMN 2 will show as a trace file.
