Blend-Point Editor
see also: Blend-Point Definition, and Segment Editor, Edit: Drag Blend-Point

Believe me, once you have conquered the Blend-Point Editor, you have conquered the hardest part of Motion Design with MotionDesigner.

In ascending order of understanding required! :

1) The Blend-Point Editor is always located to the right of the graphs.

2) At the top of the Blend-Point Editor is the "Blend-Point Number" that you will be editing. The Blend-Point Number is not indicated on the graphs, however.

3) To edit a particular Blend-Point you must first select the segment immediately to the right of it (either by clicking on it with your left mouse button, or by using the Red Left, , and the Right, arrows at the top of the graphs)

4) Key Point: A blend-point is composed of the tail of the previous segment and the start of the selected segment.

5) Another Key Point: The Blend-Point Editor simultaneously edits both the start of the selected segment and the tail of the previous segment

6) Final Key Point: The Blend-Point Editor allows you to edit the position, and, if the segment type allows it, the velocity, acceleration and jerk motion values at each blend-point

For each motion derivative of a blend-point you can decide whether you:
  • provide a value (or not) for the tail of the previous segment (see Blend-Point Editor: In Specify)
  • provide a value (or not) for the start of the selected segment (see Blend-Point Editor: Out Specify)
  • decide whether you want to match the tail and start values (see Blend-Point Editor: Match)

The image below shows the Blend-Point Editor highlighted with a yellow patch.

For the Blend-Point being edited, as I have indicated on the image,
  • The X-Value is set to 195 degrees.
  • The Y-Value have the following settings:
The Position Value has been specified to 80mm.  The "Match" control button has been set so both the tail and start of the adjoining segments will be the same value.
The Velocity Value has been specified to 200mm/s.  The "Match" control button has been set so both the tail and start of the adjoining segments will be the same value.
The Acceleration Value has been set to 6,000mm/s/s.  The "Match" button has not be set so the tail and start values of the adjoining segments can be independently specified.
The Jerk Value is not being specified (not is the graph being shown!) but the editor provides the actual value of 403,522mm/s/s/s.

To learn more about the Blend-Point Editor and its controls, see
  • Blend-Point Editor: X Valuefor the X Value setting, and
  • Blend-Point Editor: Y Values for the control of Position, Velocity, Acceleration and Jerk (the Y-Values).
