You can quickly insert a Blend-Point into an existing segment (and so split it into two segments) by using the Insert Blend-Point command

The mouse is used to point to a particular X-Value on any of the graphs.  An existing segment is split along the X-axis at the point where the mouse is clicked.
The actual motion will not change - the motion will appear to be the same as the existing one, but now there are two segments where there was one.
Of course you can edit both of the new segments using the Segment Editor command.

Very complicated motions can be built up using the Insert Segment tool.

This command is often used when the first part of a segment satisfies your motion requirements, but the second half doesn't - of visa verse.  For example, the second half may meander (oscillate).  Inserting a Blend-Point and then independently editing the first or second segment may allow you to solve the problem.

Rather the using the mouse to approximate the split point, the Insert Blend-Point At command allows you to precisely pinpoint the x-axis value you wish to insert a blend-point at.   The insert position can be moved left or right using the spin box in the dialogue.
